NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER

I love being a Newborn Photographer, there’s no photograph going to create more of an “ahhhh” than your precious 2 week old bundle of joy. As a father myself I remember their tiny feet, the delicate hands, nails and fuzzy hair. These days flyby in the blink of an eye and are easily forgotten.

BOOKING YOUR SESSION: The best time to book your newborn session is during your 5th or 6th month of pregnancy (or earlier) to ensure I’m available when your little bundle of joy arrives. When you book we pencil in your due date and schedule the actual session date and time when little one arrives. (as we know…we are all on THEIR schedule).

The best time to photograph your newborn is before 2 weeks of age while they are still in that sleepy and curly stage. Those first weeks are key as your baby will sleep far better which helps to be creative with posing. After two weeks of age, they tend to be disturbed while sleeping. They can also become colicky or baby acne can start to flare.

PREPPING FOR YOUR NEWBORN SESSION: I ask that you nurse or feed your baby 30 minutes prior to your session. A full baby = a sleepy baby. If at all possible try to keep your newborn stimulated a couple of hours prior to our session so he/she will be ready to fall asleep in a cuddly and warm blanket. The best way to photograph your newborn is in their birthday suit. Clothes tend to be bulky and awkward. To avoid marks on baby’s skin please dress them in a sleeper that buttons or zips so nothing has to go over the head when getting undressed. Also avoid socks or anything tight that will leave marks.

SIBLINGS/FAMILY: I do welcome sibling/family shots during a newborn session; however, I prefer sibling shots be taken at the beginning or the end of the session as the session duration is a few hours and siblings become irritated and bored.

PROPS: I supply all of the props but I welcome any props you may have. I am always open to new ideas! If you see something you like in any of the galleries, be sure to mention it before your session.

THE SESSION: The session will probably last 3 to 4 hours in total. Babies need feeding and constant cuddles which can’t be rushed, thus making them very different to a standard portrait session.
