We are a volunteer led project trained to keep University of York students (and other members of the public) safe on all University of York clubs nights - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

In recent years, the welfare and safety of students and residents in York has, unfortunately, been in the spotlight of the media due to the dangers which come from living in a city surrounded by two rivers. However, our project works alongside North Yorkshire Police and all relevant venues to not only provide a safety net put in place to focus on the well-being of all students, but to also reduce the strain on the emergency services.

If you see us out, give us a shout (we don't bite) and feel free to come to us for company, if you find yourself alone, need someone to point you in the right direction or just want a chat whilst you wait for your taxi!

If you are interested in the project then please "Sign Up" to our mailing list so that we can keep you updated with all things NightSafe! You will be first to hear about the recruitment process for new volunteers that will commence in Easter 2017.

At a glance, we:
- Always work in teams
- Are trained in First Aid (Level 2 for regular volunteers or higher for Team Leaders*)
- Always carry CCTV within a group
- Are always connected via radio to local police patrols, all door staff and York's CCTV control room
- Are never allowed to complete two consecutive shifts
- Complete at least 3 shifts per term as an individual (+ be a reserve on 3 other occasions)
- Also receive talks from local charities or centers on topics such as self defense, river safety, domestic violence, and dealing with homelessness in York.
