Wild Camp near Alston is situated in Northumberland, near to the border with Cumbria. high in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We have a range of pitches some distance apart for your to choose from, depending on where you want to be and how far you want to walk up a hill to ptich your tent. They allow you to fully appreciate wild camping whilst enjoying extensive views over the picturesque South Tyne Valley & Steam Railway which runs from Alston. We are in the parish of Knarsdale which has designated “Dark Skies” status enabling spectacular views of the night skies in their complete glory (weather permitting!)

This is wild camping so there are no facilities as provided on usual campsites. Spring water is available from a roadside tap. We provide buckets at each pitch for your convenience. After unloading, one parking space is available for each pitch at a small car park near the farmhouse a short walk from where you will camp.

Services are located in Alston, Cumbria which is the highest market town in England. It is 2.5 miles on foot or 4.5 miles by road. We provide storage facilities for those experiencing the hilly terrain by bike. Electric cycles can be hired locally and there is a bike repair shop 8 miles away in Nenthead.

The area is steeped in history across the centuries. Epiacum Roman Fort is clearly visible on the other side of the valley and you can find out about the areas lead mining history at Killhope museum. Being in an AONB, Wildlife is in abundance all around

As we are a wild camping spot, this is not a suitable place for noisy late parties due to the wildlife all around. It is for those who want to get away from it all and experience the peace and quietness of the environment. Small bonfires are fine.
