Visiting Mum - PACT

Visiting Mum is a new project funded by the Welsh Lottery specifically for HMP Eastwood Park Women’s Prison. HMP Eastwood Park is located in South Gloucester and is the closest female prison to Wales, with over half the prison population being from South Wales. It has been evident over the years at HMP Eastwood Park, due to various reasons; mothers in custody from South Wales do not receive visits from their children, with a break down in family relationships. However, Visiting Mum aims to prevent this from happening.

Visiting Mum aims to work with prisoners and families from South Wales to maintain the family ties, including face to face contact between a mother in custody and her child(ren). Family Engagement Workers are inside the prison supporting the women, and volunteers are outside of the prison engaging with families to help them with any difficulties they face, whilst the woman is in custody. Not only will the family and child(ren) have emotional support, the child will be physically brought to the prison to have face to face contact with their mother.
