The Vale of Berkeley Railway is a new initiative to build a heritage railway based at Sharpness and to run trains eventually along the whole length of the Severn & Wye Railway branch to the site of Berkeley Road station. (N.B. It has NO Connection with any previous schemes to do this).
The first aim is to establish a comprehensive rail engineering facility based in the old diesel shed next to Sharpness dry dock. From there it will bring back into operation the dock lines and provide brake van rides around the dock area.
As soon as possible, temporary facilities will be provided to allow the VoBR to run steam heritage trains between Sharpness and Berkeley. Then, plans will be produced to rebuild as authentically as possible the stations at both Sharpness and Berkeley.
Other developments for the future include a museum, locomotive maintenance facilities and other workshop space close to Sharpness station.
