More about TWB Massage Therapy

Tracy studied at the renowned London School of Sport & Remedial Massage qualifying with a BTEC level 5 Diploma in Clinical Soft Tissue Therapies, which is the highest level of sport massage qualification recognised by the SMA (Sports Massage Association) and ISRM ( Institute of Sport and Remedial Massage). Both leading bodies of sport massage therapy.

Soft Tissue Therapist utilises a number of clinical assessment, massage and advanced soft tissue techniques to solve a musculoskeletal problem. The same techniques can also be used to help in the recovery and to reduce symptoms of many medical conditions. Sports massage is a specialist area within Remedial massage that apply the same techniques and principles in a way that best meets the specific needs of the athlete.

Clinical Sport & Remedial Soft Tissue Therapy is often recommended in parallel with physiotherapy, osteopathy or chiropractic treatment during the rehabilitation of injuries.

Soft Tissue Therapy addresses injuries resulting from both sport and non – sport related activities and aims to:

• Reduce pain
• Improve circulation which aids the healing process
• Restore normal function of the musculoskeletal system
• promote relaxation and reduce anxiety
• Improve joint range of movement and flexibility
• Speed up recovery following injury / operation
• Removal of waste products from muscles, preventing muscle soreness and stiffness following exercise
• Prevent injury
• Provide rehabilitation programme and treatment
• Postural assessments to improve muscle tone and balance.

Kinesiology Taping:

Kinesiology tape differs from other types of strapping tape in both form and function. Most types of strapping tape are non-elastic, and are wrapped tightly around an injured joint or muscle to provide rigid support and restrict movement. They can only be worn for short periods of time, after which they must be removed to restore movement and circulation.

Kinesiology tape, on the other hand, has unique elastic properties that allow it to provide dynamic support, protecting muscles and/or joints, while still allowing a safe and functional range of motion.

Rather than being wrapped completely around injured joints or muscle groups, kinesiology tape is applied directly over and/or around the periphery of these areas. This non-restrictive type of taping allows most applications to be worn for 3-5 days, allowing therapeutic benefits to accumulate for the entire time they’re worn.

Kinesiology tape can be worn during intense exercise, showering, bathing or swimming, and dries quickly after a quick pat with a towel.

I trained in Kinesiology Taping with John Gibbons, Registered Sport Osteopath, Author and Lecturer for the Bodymaster Method. John Gibbons specialises in the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of sport related injuries.

Kinesiology Tape has been clinically shown to help with natural response to inflammation.
Correct application helps to:

• alleviate pain
• encourages removal of lymphatic fluid
• relaxes tight muscles & provides support for weak or injured muscles without affecting the normal range of movement
• Accelerates blood flow to the injured area which speeds up the healing process
• corrects postural imbalance and improves range of movement
• Assists to re educate the neuromuscular system.
• Can enhance athletic performance and endurance
