More about Tredegar Town Clock

Standing at 2134cms (72 feet) tall, Tredegar Town Clock is the most iconic cast iron structure in Tredegar, South Wales. Erected in Autumn 1858 at former Market Square (now The Circle) and completion by 21st June 1859. It was the idea of Mrs R. P. Davies after a bazaar event raising £1,000 which included a £400 donation from her husband if the rest was raised. It is also a Grade II Listed Building by CADW (Welsh Government’s historic environment service working for an accessible and well-protected historic environment for Wales). The committee which was established to erect the clock was founded by Mrs R. P. Davis, wife of the Tredegar Ironworks manager. The inscription on the clock reads as follows: 'Presented to the town of Tredegar from the proceeds of a bazaar promoted by the late Mrs R P Davis, erected 1858' / 'Wellington, Englands Hero' / 'Dieu et mon Droit'.'
