More about Trafford Hall Training

Trafford Hall offers a unique experience to people from low income communities and an opportunity to learn and develop, both as individuals and in groups, in a focussed and supportive environment.

Located in a rural setting near Chester, it is readily accessible from many of the UK's major cities and only two hours from central London.

Trafford Hall provides the opportunity to step away from pressured environments to identify new ways forward in solving neighbourhood problems. It enhances the learning and long-term impact of training.

Bringing people together who face similar local challenges allows them to share experience and create support networks, information exchanges and strong positive reinforcement for the idea of doing something about community problems.
It is a centre of excellence. Highly skilled, high quality, hands-on training is provided by the best community trainers from across the UK. It is both economical and highly effective.

What do we do?

Our key proposition, and the main focus of Trafford Hall from the outset, is on achieving community engagement, confidence and empowerment.

We do this by providing specialist training, support and guidance in community self-help and development. We reassert and demonstrate the reality that people in low-income communities have the capability and capacity to lead change and the will to act. They need and want to gain new skills and to develop the self-confidence and experience to enable their communities to capitalise on these skills. Yet, at the same time they face higher barriers and lower expectations than people in other places.

Our training programmes help them overcome these barriers, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to tackle local problems.

The courses focus on practical issues like getting people involved, improving open spaces, working in partnership with landlords, managing budgets, tackling crime and vandalism, improving health, fundraising for local projects, organising a social enterprise, Bee-keeping, make do and mend.

Groups from different parts of the country learn together and share their experience. But each group leaves with a specific action plan for their neighbourhood and skills to put it into practice; and where appropriate, we provide small grants to help them get projects off the ground.

Two days at Trafford Hall, learning new things with new people in a different environment has a transformational impact on participants.
