More about Tim Mottershead Piano

Tim Mottershead has taught piano continuously since March 1987. An experienced teacher, he has taught hundreds of students:

* all levels from complete beginners to advanced
* all ages from young children to older adults (aged 4 to 70+)
* all styles classical, jazz, blues, pop, musicals, folk & world music; etc

An experienced solo performer, Tim has appeared at festivals, concert series, museums and galleries, stately homes, concert halls, and universities throughout the UK in a wide range of repertoire. Solo recitals are often themed, with the musical items given brief spoken introductions to set the scene. He is available to perform at weddings, private parties, as well as corporate events and functions. He is also experienced in delivering children's events and workshops.

Tim also performs a wide range of vocal material with Edward D’Arcy Hatton including: opera, art songs, song cycles; songs from the ‘Great American Songbook’ & ‘Jazz’ composers; and material from musicals and films.

For venues without piano, a superb portable digital piano, a Yamaha P200 (supplied by PMT Manchester) is available. Additional amplification is also available where required. Tim is a member of both the Musician’s Union and EPTA, and carries their public liability insurance as standard.

Tim has composed approximately 150 works, and now writes mainly for his own performance projects. He follows the dictum of his teacher Ronald Stevenson that there is essentially no difference between composition, variation, and transcription.

Tim has long been active as a writer on music. He has published a biography on Alan Rawsthorne (2005), and contributed to scholarly journals such as TEMPO, Piano Professional, and recently the leading article for Musical Opinion. He has also written for online publications included James Bond Dossier which produced his in-depth tribute to the late John Barry; whilst more than 55 reviews for Remote Goat have attracted more than 30,000 views.
