Tiger Primary School

Tiger Primary School, in Loose, is run by Future Schools Trust and was the first primary in Kent to be set up under the Governmentʼs Free School initiative.

Following a series of public consultations and an overwhelming level of support, Future Schools Trust, who already run two secondary academies and a nursery, were given the green light by the Department of Education to open in the Autumn term. The school caters for children aged four to eleven.

Based at the New Line Learning (NLL) Academy site, in Boughton Lane, Tiger Primary offers a significantly different education for the young people of Maidstone. Alongside the core curriculum there is a greater emphasis on personalised support and enrichment. Pupils have specialist teachers for languages, music, gym, dance and games lessons. Tiger pupils also have access to excellent onsite resources including a school farm and ecology woodland.

The primary school is temporarily in specially adapted spaces within NLL Academy to maximise the learning opportunities for the children. The new building is due to be completed in 2015.

The staff at Tiger Primary School have developed a creative curriculum with a different theme in each year group for each term, incorporating creative writing, history, geography, design and technology, art, science and ICT skills. The curriculum is designed to give pupils a deeper and more memorable learning journey with key texts at the heart. Alongside these lessons children will gain knowledge, understanding and skills of RE, grammar, spelling, comprehension and mathematics discretely but building links with the creative curriculum where appropriate. All of the creative themes have a ʻstunning startʼ, a ʻfabulous finishʼ and are enriched by visits and visitors along the way.
