The Turnpike, Bawtry

On the one hand The Turnpike is everything you would expect from a traditional Yorkshire pub, on the other hand we offer so much more. Yes, we’ve got the oak beams and the traditional ales and admittedly, many of the dishes on the menu are what you might well expect to see in a traditional pub. OK, so we still have the pub ‘telly’ and the ‘time please’ bell on the bar but we’ve moved on a bit. There’s a change of guest ale every week and as for food, as well as the trad stuff, we’ve got a fabulous array of exciting new dishes created by chef, Michael Tytherleigh. The pub ‘telly’ is now a 50” digital smart TV and in addition to normal telly, it’s got t’interweb. I have been coming to The Turnpike since it opened nearly thirty years ago and I was gutted earlier this year to discover the oak beams aren’t oak. Still, they look like oak and that’s the main thing. That just leaves the bell. Suffice to say that it doesn’t ring at eleven anymore.

The difference is it doesn’t get rung at 11 o'clock anymore.
