More about The Swiss Church, London

As a Swiss Church, we belong to the one universal, apostolic and holy Church of Christ. Our foundation is the word of God as witnessed in both the Old and the New Testament. The Swiss Church has its roots in the Swiss Reformation of the 16th century. It strives to proclaim the Gospel in word and action according to the principles set out by the Reformation, in particular by John Calvin and Huldrych Zwingli. In this spirit, the Swiss Church encourages its members to actively explore Christian faith and spirituality and to find a personal belief based on reflection, experience and dialogue. We seek to further and strengthen the Christian principles of love, solidarity and justice. In ecumenical and inter-religious openness, the Swiss Church welcomes Christians of all other denominations, as well as people from other religions and spiritual seekers.

As a Swiss Church founded by French speaking Swiss in the 18th century and later united with the German speaking congregation, our Church is a meeting place for Swiss people and friends from all places and walks of life. Our roots unite us across generations. The Swiss Church seeks to contribute actively to the social life of the Swiss community in London and promotes cultural and social activities to strengthen friendship and understanding. The Swiss Church is home to long-term and short-term Swiss visitors who seek community, guidance and friendship during their stay in London. We are an inviting place for everyone who is interested in Swiss culture, traditions and history.

As a Swiss Church in London, our doors are open for the local community and for the passers-by in Covent Garden. The Swiss Church is located right in centre of one of the most vibrant and creative cities in the world. Many creative people feel a particular affiliation to our flexible and modern church space. We acknowledge that big cities are places that attract people in need and we recognise our responsibility in relieving suffering and loneliness through action and prayer.

We believe that all three aspects, being a Church, being Swiss and being in London are inseparably intertwined and stimulate each other.
