Am I Qualified?

I was fortunate enough to be introduced to woodwork in school at the age of 12 and on leaving there received an "A" grade in this subject. At 16 years old I began a 4 & a half year apprenticeship at Edwards of Heathfield and simultaneously obtained my City and Guilds in Cabinet Making passing with distinction.

I then accepted an offer of employment at 'De Montforts' of Robertsbridge where I worked with early oak furniture.

My next step was to 'Braggs of Rye' where I spent 2 & a half years gaining valuable experience with walnut and mahogany pieces.

By 1980 I was ready to start my own furniture making and restoration business which has proven very successful. With time I had become increasingly aware of peoples fascination with this craft. There was however an unfortunate lack of private learning facilities in this area which naturally led to my opening "The School of Furniture and Antique Restoration" in 1987. I now hope that others might benefit from my expertise.

The Schools Objective

I aim to teach the basic craft of woodwork and antique restoration in a practical, clear and enjoyable manner. My school room is a well equipped workshop which can comfortably cater for up to seven people in one class. I have specifically designed my course so that I can accommodate all levels of ability in order that each individual is able to learn and progress at their own speed. The classes cover joint making, maintenance of tools, furniture restoration, French polishing, colouring and of course furniture making.
I am always flexible and happy to discuss particular ideas.

I hope that students will also experience what I have and that is the exhilaration of personal achievement.
