The Richard Villar Practice

Richard Villar is a highly respected Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery but, most particularly, conservative hip surgery. His work is recognised worldwide, with local, national and international patients attending for consultation and surgery. Many premier sporting individuals and many household names have attended the Richard Villar Practice.

The practice is located at the Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital in Cambridge, United Kingdom, although also holds outpatient consultations in London. It is supported by some of the most advanced diagnostic imaging equipment available.

Richard Villar, and the practitioners who support him, aim to only offer hip replacement surgery when other more conservative options have been exhausted. For example, why replace the hip when a keyhole (arthroscopic) operation is possible? That said, the practice also undertakes significant numbers of hip replacement procedures but would rather preserve a patient’s hip joint if it can.

Should hip replacement become necessary, the practice aims to minimise the magnitude of surgery and the length of stay in hospital. Hence its use of hip microplasty, hip partial resurfacing and hip full resurfacing techniques in selected individuals.
