More about The Olde Sweet Shoppe Guest Accommodation

The Space

Your own door leads into the Olde Butchers Shoppe with beamed ceiling and large front window. The Olde Shoppe contains a sofa bed, kitchenette, and a door leading into a separate shower, toilet and sink. Another door from the Olde Shoppe leads into the master bedroom which is part of the main Georgian House making a self contained lockable private apartment. Both rooms are on the ground floor, although there is a small step from the pavement into the Olde Shoppe and a step from the Olde Shoppe into the bedroom. The main bedroom has period built in welsh dresser, two windows and double bed. A cot can be provided if required but you will need to bring all your own bedding for the cot.

Guest Access

Your rooms are fully self contained, private and lockable, with your own front door access via the Olde Butchers Shoppe. There is an outside courtyard but this is not available for guests.

Interaction with Guests

The owner and family live in the main house and are available for advice about local events etc. Bedding (except for cot) and towels are provided, along with crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils for microwave, toaster and kettle.

The Neighbourhood

Southwell and the surrounding area has lots to do and see. Southwell Minster has a superb Norman Nave which is one of the finest in Europe and has concerts, weddings and The Music Festival (August) as well as the nearby Archbishops Palace. The Workhouse allows you to learn about the daily routine for those who lived and worked here in the 1840s. Heritage Trails are mapped out for you to follow and Harveys Olde Butchers Shoppe is on the Trail! The Gate to Southwell Music Festival happens in June and features folk singers such as Billy Bragg and Clannad. There are operas, Victorian garden days, fundays, poetry events all without leaving Southwell ((website hidden)). Nearby is Newark with its Castle and Civil War Centre, historic buildings and market. Nottingham City is in the other direction with its shops, nightlife, and art scene. Sherwood Forest is nearby with walks, cycle rides and its visitor centre. So much to do and see all round about.

Getting around

There is a bus stop 30 yards from the accommodation which will take you to Newark, Mansfield and Nottingham. The nearest train station is at Fiskerton which is about 2 miles away and will take you to Nottingham, Lincoln and beyond. There is no parking at the accommodation but parking is available on the street outside.

Other Things to Note

We do have a dog, so you may hear the occasional bark and we do live in the house so there may be the occasional movement. However, the walls are fairly thick it being an old building and we are not a noisy family. The house is directly opposite The Bramley Apple Pub which serves food and The Hearty Good Fellow is 100 yards away which also serves food. There are numerous other cafes, pubs and restaurants which all serve food within 10 minutes walk. The rooms are on the ground floor however there is a small step into the accommodation and another step between the Olde Butchers Shoppe and the bedroom.
