More about The Hythe

Welcome to our home
We would love to share with you our beautiful home and its outstanding views. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled too as you wouldn't want to miss the dolphins as they pass by. We have loved this home and its views for the last few years and enjoyed its stunning location and magnificent sunsets.
The House
Built in 1873 as two separate fishermen's cottages, the houses are now joined together to form a beautifully and fully renovated 4 bedroom family home. On the upper floor you will find the master bedroom with king sized bed and ensuite shower room, 1 double bedroom, 2 single bedrooms and a family bathroom, whilst the lower floor provides a spacious open plan kitchen diner with separate utility and a cosy lounge with open fireplace.
Outside Space - To the rear and up the stairs is a raised deck area for entertaining and a further smaller deck to the side of the house with a bench to take in the spectacular views in privacy. To the side is a lockable bike shed.
Luxuries: Jacuzzi Bath, Wii Console, BlueTooth Speaker, Ipod Speakers and TVs in 3 of the 4 bedrooms
The Hythe
Derives its name from the old word for Haven or Landing Place.
The small sheltered bay was used to build and repair ships in very recent history, only closing its doors at the end of WWII. Imagine the grassed area to the front of the house filled with a huge wooden hull!
You will find pictures and memories of Findochty, The Hythe and surrounding areas at the Buckie and District Fishing Heritage based in Buckie.
Beaches/Harbour
Immediately to the front of the property is a small beach with seating areas and a BBQ. Relax in the morning with a coffee and the paper or in the afternoon with a glass of something cold. In the evening be sure to keep an eye out for the dolphins, whales and seals.
A couple of minutes stroll to the right of the house brings you to a larger beach with rock pools ideal for 'crabbing', dog walking or just a pleasant walk.
A short stroll in the opposite will bring you to the harbour area where fishing boats and pleasure craft are moored whilst being carefully overlooked by the statue of the Fisherman. The fishing boats are still operating from the harbour; visit at the right time of day and you might hook yourself a shellfish bargain from one of the friendly locals.
The Moray Firth Dolphins
The Moray Firth is famous for the world's largest and most northerly bottlenose dolphins. They pass the house daily – if you keep a vigilant eye and the sea state is calm then you should see them. More information on their activities can be found at the Scottish Dolphin Centre at Spey Bay.
Findochty (pronounced Finechty)
Is a small fishing village located on the Moray Firth. It has a slow pace of life and lends itself to a relaxing and quiet break. It has 3 beaches and a harbour. There is a local pub within 5 mins walk where you can sit outside and enjoy the views with a cold drink and maybe sample something from the menu.
There is a shop about 5 mins walk where you can buy most of your fresh goods such as milk, bread, cooked meats, fantastic steak pies and a morning paper of course. There are the usual larger supermarkets just a short drive away in Buckie.
Next to the shop there is a pharmacy which also doubles as a post office. During the week there are several mobile kitchens that operate from the village selling fish suppers and burgers if you don't feel like cooking.
There are some excellent walks and cycling paths either side of the village. Go right from the house and you can walk/cycle along the cliff tops to Portknockie where the remains of Green Castle can still be seen and of course the famous Bow Fiddle Rock. Go a little further and you will reach the stunning beach at Cullen. The Ice Cream and Fish Suppers there are the best. For those wanting to eat something different you can also get Indian and Chinese food here or have lunch in one of the numerous cafes.
Go left from the house and down beside the pub, you can walk to Strathlene Golf course and driving range and then onto Buckie. The area is full of walks and cycle rides with Winding Walks (probably 10 mins drive) having purpose built cycle tracks within the forest.
