The Honest John

Originally the building was used as the Chatteris Labour Exchange. Mr. Stuart Stacey converted the premises into it's present use in 1976, creating the first free house in Chatteris. Stuart named the pub after his father. This unusual and unique name was given to Stuart’s father by an auctioneer at the local market because of his reputation of making a realistic bid. We have been in residence since 1987 and our restaurant opened in May 1990.

We have always paid a high level of attention the quality and range of our beers. In our twenty four years we have served over 1000 different varieties, from local and national brewers. We have also developed a reputation for serving continental beers, serving Belgian beers and Bavarian wheat beer from the world famous Erdinger Company.
