More about The Flyover Show 2017 - Sat 19th August

The Flyover Show, Birmingham’s most dynamic urban arts event, will once again transform ‘the grey space beneath the Hockley Flyover into an oasis of cultural expression’, as Soweto Kinch’s one-day festival of music, art & dance returns on Sat 20th August.

Headlining The Flyover Show 2016 will be legendary jazz/reggae guitarist & composer Ernest Ranglin – playing alongside a bill of musical luminaries, many of whom have been supported by and performed at previous Flyover Show events.

Further acts confirmed to perform at The Flyover Show 2016 include: Basil Gabbidon, Eska, Call Me Unique, Knox Brown, Juice Aleem, TrueMendous, Reuben James, DJ Winchester, YounGod, Decip4life, Amerah Salah, Jae Dot Sosa and Trope.

Soweto Kinch will also be playing at The Flyover Show 2016, with his own band and alongside headliner Ernest Ranglin. Kinch is currently performing with Ernest Ranglin on his ‘farewell tour’, appearing at a series of high profile international concerts including Glastonbury Festival, The Barbican, Montreal Jazz Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival and Philharmonie De Paris.

The Flyover Show 2016 has now been added to the Ernest Ranglin’s ‘farewell tour’ schedule, giving Birmingham a rare and final chance to see the legendary jazz/reggae guitarist & composer live on stage.

Live music, spoken word, graffiti art, break dancing, local food stalls and a host of arts & activities for all ages will be taking place at The Flyover Show 2016 from 12noon until 9pm. The Flyover Show is, as it always has been, a free to attend and family friendly festival.

Walking distance from Birmingham City Centre, The Flyover Show 2016 can be accessed via four subway tunnels, connecting the site to Soho Rd, New John St, Great Hampton St & Heaton St.

“The Flyover Show is about celebrating the traditions of black culture in our city, whilst giving local people a live show they may never get to experience,” explains Soweto Kinch.

“It’s also about challenging the preconceptions surrounding the area, showing that community and culture can thrive in all corners of our city’s heart. With certain artists and genres there’s a wall; an unadmitted barrier between venues, promoters and a potentially wider audience. The Flyover Show breaks down these constraints of culture and class, and brings world renowned acts right into the heart of our community.”
