Thanet Earth

Thanet Earth is a large-scale development of super-sustainable greenhouses, with crops of delicious fresh tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers growing inside.

Primarily a supplier to major UK retailers, in answer to local demand Thanet Earth also now supplies a growing number of local independent stores with its own brand products.

Tomatoes are grown all year round, thanks to a major investment in greenhouse lights. Electricity is produced all year round thanks to the use of ‘combined heat and power’ generation units in each greenhouse.

Greenhouse number 4 was built to include an education centre which is offered to schools and universities for use by students and teachers to help increase knowledge of food production, sustainability and food security issues.

So far, 5 greenhouses have been constructed, covering an area of some 35 hectares. Greenhouse number 5 opened this February and construction on our 6th greenhouse is underway now. The plan for the site is to extend the number of greenhouses to 7, and to a total of 55 hectares of glass.

Our company is the realisation of what many thought was an unlikely dream. At a time when no one was investing in horticulture in the UK our partners came together and saw great potential if we created a collaborative joint venture. We took a large field of cauliflowers and built the UK’s most ambitious greenhouse site, shaking up the industry and raising standards of quality and service.
