More about SWEL

Sea Wave Energy Ltd (SWEL) has been developing its principle wave energy converter (or WEC), the Waveline Magnet for over 10 years. We are focused on clean, sustainable renewable power, in the wave and tidal energy sector. Incorporated in October 2011, to exploit our intellectual property; however, the Director’s research and development started seriously in 2005 and has involved numerous patents, numerical modelling and prototype sea-trials throughout the last 8 years

Our years of research has culminated into our highly successful prototype Waveline Magnet, stationed in our wavetank in Pila, Cyprus and has demonstrated numerous advantages:

Low cost of manufacture, a rarity in the ocean power sector.
Low deployment and mooring costs
Little resistance to waves, giving high durability and survivability
Continuous and sustainable energy generation
Good efficiency recorded in early sea-trials
Reduced coastal erosion by 'depowering' the force of the waves
Ideally suited to power desalination plants

Early sea trials of prototype WM6, carried out in Cyprus and independently monitored by the University of Exeter in July 2012 demonstrated good efficiency, even with low wave heights.

These Cyprus tests revealed that the Waveline Magnet offers other green benefits on top of harnessing wave power to turn into electricity but also an ideal means by which sea water can be desalinated to provide clean water via green energy, thus avoiding the heavy use of fossil fuels and at a reduced cost. Further, a large scale Waveline Magnet is even predicted to supply a solution to areas that are suffering from wave induced coastal erosion.

Findings from those sea trials informed the development of WM7 for further tests at Plymouth University's new state-of-the-art wave tank in Q1 - 2013.

The Company is now seeking investors, potential partners and manufacturers who are interested in the technology. Please contact Mario Kolovos for UK queries or Tommy Zakheos for all Cypriot enquiries by pressing the contact button at the top of the page.
