Springboard

Springboard Sunderland Trust started in December 1975 as a joint project between CSV www.csv.org.uk and Sunderland Borough Council Social Services Department.

In the late 1970s Sunderland had one of the highest rates of unemployment in the country, of which 20% were young people.

The original plan was to provide work experience and training for young people interested in working and gaining skills under the Job Creation Programme.

The charity operates across the north east, with bases in Hartlepool, Peterlee, Sunderland, Hetton, Jarrow and Allenheads.

Springboard provides a wide range of opportunities through Apprenticeships, flexible Study programmes and Springboard Works (our project to support unemployed people back to the world of work)

Springboard also runs an outdoor residential centre. Allenheads Lodge makes an excellent venue for outdoor activities or for just relaxing in the peaceful countryside surroundings. The Lodge has 24 beds in four separate dormitories, is fully central heated, with individual toilet and showers and has a large kitchen and dining room.
