Songful

Songful is a collaboration between a flautist / singer-songwriter and a jazz guitarist established at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. They play an exciting mixture of jazz standards and own songs that take inspiration from jazz, blues, folk, chanson and beyond.


Flautist and singer-songwriter Martina Mihulková performs classical music and jazz along with her song compositions around London and her hometown Prague.
As a singer, she has recently collaborated with the Prague-based Jazzmazec band, and Přímá Oklika theatre ensemble, performing in a cabaret show. Some of her current highlights include a performance at the United Islands of Prague Festival, or jamming alongside singer Tonya Graves at the Jazz Festival in Černošice.
As a flautist, she has performed with Chamber Philharmonic Pardubice and Talich Chamber Orchestra, as well as the contemporary ensemble Berg, all based in the Czech Republic. During her studies she has played under the baton of Pietari Inkinen and Yan Pascal Tortelier amongst others. She has taken part in performances in the Barbican Hall in London, the Rudolphinum Dvořák’s Hall in Prague, as well as a number of clubs and cafes.
Martina is a graduate of the Prague Conservatoire, and is currently studying flute and singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Her studies are kindly supported by the Czech Music Fund and the Foundation Život umělce.

Joe Smith Sands is a guitarist and improviser based in London. As a student of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama he is studying jazz with Colin Oxley, Dave Cliff, and Stuart Hall and taking further lessons with Sarah-Gail Brand and John Russell. He has performed at venues around London, including the Vortex and the 100 Club as well as playing internationally in Sweden and Ireland. He has recently performed at the MultiOvLondon Festival in November 2016. As well as being an active member of theUK jazz and improvised music scene Joe's current projects include G.I.M.P. and his work with singer Jack Mizzi, with whom he is currently working on an album expected to be released in 2017.
