Snuffle Rugs

Hey.

I’m Misty and I LOVE my Snuffle Rug!

I didn’t have a very nice puppyhood, I don’t remember too much but there was lots of fighting for food and horrible big boots.

My Mum and Dad rescued me in May 2017 from the streets of Romania; I was 9 months old and couldn’t be more thankful. I love my new home… nearly as much as I Love my Snuffle Rug!

Although I am GORGEOUS and loved by everyone, I can be a little naughty! I didn’t have a chance to be a puppy, so I’m making up for it now. I had a little upset soon after I found my new home and to relax I made a really COOL den inside the Sofa. I made a BIG mess, it was so much FUN! Mum and Dad didn’t think it was so cool.

I was visited by a lovely lady called Natalie who made me do lots of new things; like lie in my bed, walk next to my humans and wait patiently for my treats. It was hard work but she fed me lots of Sausages so it was OK!

Natalie had this really cool fluffy rug with her, it had lots of soft fleecy folds with treats hidden inside for me to sniff and find. I liked it straight away and even when I run out of treats it makes a lovely pillow. I couldn’t keep that one but Mum soon made me my very own. My SnuffleRug distracts me from anything going on in the home that might make me feel anxious, no more SOFA DENS!

I chat to other doggies when I’m out walking my humans and I know there are other dogs that feel scared and nervous sometimes. That’s why I asked Mum to make some more for my friends.

AND SNUFFLE RUGS WAS BORN!

SnuffleRugs are great for encouraging a dogs natural foraging skills; the hunt for food provides them with excellent physical and mental stimulation. It’s not just for dogs; they can also be used for cats, guinea pigs, rabbits and even horses.

SnuffleRugs are enrichment tools used to help refine search and find skills, it’s great for so many things, these are just a few:
- Ten minutes of snuffling is equivalent to a much longer walk
- Helps focus and concentration
- Relaxing and tiring
- Redirect a dog's attention away from something he shouldn't have or be chasing
- Safe mental stimulation for dogs on restricted exercise or seniors
- You can use a SnuffleRug to distract your dog when familiarising them to household noises such as the washing machine
- They help to teach your dog to enjoy being touched. While they are happily engaged in foraging, pick up each paw in preparation for nail clipping, check ears etc.
- DINNER - A dog’s kibble can be fed from the SnuffleRug for meal times - ideal for fast eaters to slow them down

Learning to SNUFFLE
A clever dog may shake the SnuffleRug or turn it over so the treats fall out. In this case, make foraging easy by placing ten highly scented treats on top of the mat and sit with your dog, placing your foot on the rug if necessary to prevent it being shaken. Once they have mastered foraging, increase the difficulty by reducing the treat size and burying them deeper.
