A Different Approach to Gun Dog Training
Based near Ludlow in the beautiful Shropshire countryside our kennels and approach to training is based on three criteria .. quality, quality and quality
We have a limited number of dogs for training at any one time to ensure that each receives the perfect amount of time as does the owner ! We firmly believe that completion of the training does not end with the dog being collected by the owner. Our approach incorporates offering the owner time, expertise and support after the dog has returned home.
Gun Dogs at Stud
We have excellent Labrador, Springer and Cocker dogs at stud, each with impressive pedigrees and field trial results. Full details of each of our stud dogs can be found under the breed section on this web site, and we are only a phone call way to discuss your specific requirements.
It is standard practice to have hips and eyes tested with Labradors before using them for breeding, however, at Shropshire Gun Dogs, we have followed this through to our English Springer Spaniel stud dogs; all of whom have the same tests carried out, in order to protect the breed for the future. This is something that is not carried out with the majority of English springer stud dogs in this country.

Our Kennels
Our purpose built modern insulated Kennels have tiled floors, heating and separate insulated bedding areas all kept to the highest possible standards of cleanliness. There is a large exercise yard and each dog is walked at least twice a day.
Security
Care of your dog whilst at Shropshire Gundogs does not just include the welfare of the dog. Dog theft is an increasing problem and we have taken every precaution to ensure your dog is safe. We double lock the kennels, a security dog has free range of all the kennel area plus an up-to-date security CCTV system running 24 hours which includes night vision cameras.

Shropshire Gundogs can offer all types of training from obedience training to a fully trained gundog. We offer residential training to a limited number of dogs enabling us to provide the necessary time with each dog to ensure their maximum potential brought out. The dogs are taken into the kennels and in the first week of residence all dogs are profiled – assessed as to their suitability to be trained for the tasks expected of them. After this first week the training requirements are discussed with the owner taking into account the age, ability and experience of the dog.
Owners are encouraged to visit on a regular basis to check progress and review the training needs if required. It normally takes between four to six months to train a dog to a reasonable standard, although as you would expect each dog is different. Once the training is completed coaching and instruction are given so that the owner knows how to work the dog correctly, together with any follow up advice or help.
Shropshire Gundogs also provide refresher training for those dogs that have already been fully trained but have picked up a few bad habits or are starting to ignore the commands. These faults are best dealt with before the next season starts.
Shropshire Gundogs has access to Field Trial training days on live game during the shooting season, normally during September/October. This allows for young dogs to move from dummies on to live game. During the shooting season Kevin maximises the opportunity to train gundogs further by picking up on several local estates.
