SEND to Learn Nursery

At SEND to Learn Nursery we believe that our parents should expect the best for their child regardless of differing circumstances. Our aim is to provide exceptional inclusive nursery education for children aged 2-5 years, in a friendly child-centred environment, delivered by highly experienced and motivated staff who understand the needs of the children in their care. Although open to all students, we specialise in children with additional needs, with care and education individualised to provide all children with the best opportunities for development. We have a unique approach to learning which is built upon the best aspects of Special Education Needs Education and Early Years Education and Child Care. We follow the EYFS framework, with a focus on the various communication and sensory needs of our children. We utilise our purpose built sensory room as well as a range of ever-changing daily sensory activities to develop each child’s sensory awareness and tolerances. We also encourage an assortment of communication methods such as sign language, PEC’s and visual aids as well as verbal communication to allow children to opportunity to communicate to the best of their ability.

We want to ensure that parents/guardians have the opportunity to actively participate at all levels, as partners of the organisation and in the planning of services for their children. We aim for parents/guardians to feel comfortable, respected and valued. We also aim to support families by offering specialist advice and training for families with disabilities and special educational needs. We offer help with referrals, family support groups, coffee mornings with other nursery parents & with other families who have been through similar experiences with SEND children. In addition to this we also run CPD courses/qualifications, informal talks, coffee mornings, parent support groups, and workshops in first aid, disability awareness, signing and massage to name a few.

We also run parent & child sessions for 0 - 5 year olds which includes music & movement, sensory/messy play, baby massage and signed singing. We aim to provide the best possible environment for both parents & children to socialise with their peers, play & learn together, and participate in fun activities to encourage early development. These sessions also give parents the chance to bond with their children as well as learn about child development and health.

Additional activities at SEND to Learn include several holiday programmes throughout the year for children aged 2 - 8 years old. Children can enjoy a variety of activities ranging from messy play and art & crafts, to music, sports, and sensory activities. We may also organise outings or visits from local activity groups.

Our nursery environment is a purpose built facility consisting of two main indoor learning spaces; one of which has a creative social space, reading snug and ball pool; the other having role play areas, construction space, trampoline, and a bespoke wet play space allowing us to easily engage in messy play activities. We also have an exciting custom-made sensory room, as well as child height toilets and sinks, nappy changing area, and separate kitchen. Outside we have several engaging spaces including a sensory shelter, a mini-beast and fairy garden for the children to actively explore, 2 willow wig-wams and tunnels, a specialised outdoor reading den, a paved yard for outdoor games, a forest den, a mud kitchen, and a garden with climbing house, flower wall and pond.

It is also important to note that we operate as a community driven Social Enterprise which means that our profits go straight back into supporting SEND to Learn and the local community.
