Selby Market has historic roots, beginning in the days of the Benedictine monks when the market was held within the Abbey. The open-air market as we know it today grew from the early 14th Century when it was moved to Selby Market Cross from the Abbey.
Today the market has developed enormously from its early days but still retains the core values that make it great. Selby market exists to serve the community, providing a social and bustling atmosphere for people of any ages and backgrounds to enjoy.
