What is Veterinary Forensics?

In the broadest sense, Veterinary Forensics is the evidence-based application of Veterinary Science in order to aid the resolution of legal disputes involving animals.

This is a wide remit, encompassing everything from animal cruelty cases to professional negligence, wildlife crime, animal attacks on humans, or indeed any other area where animals or their products and the law might interact.

Saphinia aims to address this need both on the 'front line' with cases, and in research, helping the field of Veterinary Forensics to continue to evolve.

Saphinia is run by Adele Wharton, a practicing veterinary surgeon with experience primarily in the equine and small animal fields. She developed an interest in veterinary forensics while working in the equine welfare sector, and went on to undertake a postgraduate certificate in Veterinary Forensics and Law, before creating Saphinia as a private, independent consultancy service.
