Robin Gillan: Folk Music Tuition

I am a music teacher who specializes in folk guitar, 5-stringed banjo and old-time fiddle. I have been a professional folk musician for many years, and perform and work as a session musician alongside teaching. I am happy to teach at all levels, from beginners to advanced. I take an encouraging and relaxed approach to teaching, and tailor my lessons to suit my students' needs. I teach by ear, and using tablature. I can give you lessons at my home in Cambridge, or may be able to travel to you. I cover Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, and parts of Essex and Bedfordshire. My rates are competitive.

A bit more about my music credentials: I often perform solo as a multi-instrumentalist and singer, and have appeared at most London folk clubs, the Cambridge Folk Festival and the Green Man Festival. I have also recorded and performed with well-known musicians, such as Tom Paley (of the New Lost City Ramblers) and Kate Lissaeur. Recently, I appeared on Tom Paley's "Old-Time Moonshine Revue" album, which has received 4-star reviews from the Guardian and the Telegraph, and played live with him on BBC Radio 6 Music. I have won the fiddle and banjo contests at the Gainsborough folk festival, as well as London's "Folk Idol" competition! I also run Cambridge's Portland Folk Club in my spare time.
