Portishead Poppies RBL Ladies Bowls Club

In 1988 - 89 a second bowling green was being built at our green (Portishead Lake Grounds). Pat Gregory (who was then Pat King) and Carol Bliss (who was then Carol Keedwell) gained information about structuring and the formation of a new Ladies Bowling Club.

They called a meeting at the clubhouse which 29 ladies attended and when they explained the information they had gained, enough ladies were interested in forming what would be called Portishead Royal British Legion Ladies Bowling Club. The reason for this being that there was already a Portishead Ladies Club and we wished to be affiliated to the Royal British Legion as our other Men's Club were with and called the Royal British Legion Bowling Club.
