More about Pen Glan Cottage

One of 7 stone cottages built in 1800's to house local estate workers, situated in the quiet hamlet of Penmaenpool, the cottage nestles at the foot of Cader Idris mountain range, with Mawddach Estuary on the door step. It is a great holiday destination all year round - perfect for combining the many outdoor pursuits on offer in Snowdonia with relaxing days out on the soft sandy beaches of Barmouth, Fairbourne and Aberdovey.

Recently refurbished, the self-catering cottage which sleeps 4, has a lovely cosy but spacious feel with a log burner, stone fireplace and exposed beams with 2 large leather sofas seating 5 also a fully kitted handmade kitchen with breakfast bar (including a gas and electric double oven/grill, microwave, fridge with freezer box, kettle & toaster) creating a lovely open plan living area. There is also a spacious conservatory with a dining table for 4 that backs onto a paved area with table chairs and barbecue for al fresco living. Upstairs there are 2 good sized rooms, one with a double bed and one with Sealy zip and link beds which can either be a twin or a superking sized bed.
The bathroom has a separate shower and bath. As well as the wood burner in the living room there is modern gas central heating throughout (including in the conservatory) and double glazing.

Outside there is an outhouse with a toilet, additional fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble drier plus a place to store bikes. In addition to the paved area outside the conservatory there are also steps leading up to a further patio area with picnic table. There is private off-road parking for 2 cars next to the house. Minimum night stay is 3 nights, we also accept waggy tails for a small charge or £5 per dog per stay.

The cottage is a few minute walk from the Mawddach Trail which follows the route of the old railway line from Dolgellau to Barmouth, the much photographed, Grade II listed, wooden toll bridge (built in 1879 across the tidal Mawddach Estuary at Penmaenpool) and the famous George III Hotel which serves delicious, locally sourced food and a selection of real ales. The beautiful market town of Dolgellau is 2 miles away with it’s shops, cafes, restaurants (and bike hire). The fabulous beaches of Barmouth and Fairbourne are around 8 miles. Coed y Brenin Mountain Biking Centre is around 6.5 miles away. Bala Lake and the Internationally renowned National White Water Centre are all short drives away.
