Steve Parry Humanist Ceremonies

I write and conduct Humanist Naming Ceremonies.

These ceremonies provide an opportunity for family and friends to gather and celebrate the arrival of a new child without it having to be a religious ceremony. An opportunity to honour the child as a unique individual, and to formally offer promises of ongoing love and support.

They are happy, relaxed (or formal – you choose) ceremonies which are very much child-centred. Their main purpose may be to name the baby, but they also offer an opportunity for so much more.

They give parents a chance to;

- celebrate the child’s arrival into the world,
- publicly affirm their love and commitment to the child,
- reflect on the impact the child has had on their family,
- recognise the important contribution made by family and friends,
- choose to be ‘guideparents’ or “mentors” ( other names can be used) - who will be an additional source if love and support to the child
- They are also, of course, a great excuse for a party!

Each Naming Ceremony is unique and I would love to help you create one that reflects your baby’s personality, your family circumstances, your values, and your hopes and aspirations for your child.

Humanist Ceremonies have developed this idea of Baby Namings so that Naming or Welcome Ceremonies can be a special way to mark other major events. For example to welcome older adoptive child or step-children while combining families or to celebrate the new name and gender of someone transitioning. It is perfectly possible to have a ceremony without an actual naming.
