More about Park Hall Country Park

Park Hall Country Park is a popular 138.2 hectare site which offers extensive views over Stoke-on-Trent and rolling Staffordshire Moorlands farmland. It has a varied landscape of sandstone canyons, open heathland, wildflower meadows, deciduous and coniferous woodland and wetland areas. Just under one third of the country park is designated as a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest and National Nature Reserve (NNR), which is known as Hulme Quarry. The NNR consists of a series of canyons that were created by quarrying activities in the mid-20th century. They contain nationally important exposures of red sandstone and pebble beds, which were deposited between 250 and 215 million years ago. Park Hall is well used by local residents for a wide variety of leisure activities, including picnics, mountain biking, dog walking, fishing, cross-country running and children’s play. The site contains an extensive network of footpaths and desire lines, offering both easy and more challenging walks. There are numerous points at which pedestrians can enter the site and a series of waymarked routes with accompanying self-guided leaflets. There are four main car parks, all of which are identified by entrance signage. Toilet facilities are located close to the main canyon at the heart of the Country Park and NNR. Park Hall offers a varied programme of public events throughout the year and is a popular destination for school environmental education visits.
