Op Inheritance D&C Police

Operation Inheritance is designed to proactively reduce crime in the Devon and Cornwall policing area by informing people of property reported to the police as stolen.
Op Inheritance was conceived in 2012 as a method of improving links between the local police teams and second hand vendors in and around Plymouth attempting to trace stolen goods and return them to the rightful owners.
By cementing relationships between the Police, second hand dealers, valuable metal merchants and marine chandlers the plan was to reduce crime and the fear of crime throughout the policing area.
The eventual ethos of the operation in an ideal world would be ‘If No-One will Buy It, Then Why Steal It’.
We aimed to do this by increasing information sharing between the Police and traders and after nearly four years we have received positive reviews and some great successes leading to property being returned and offenders being identified.
In early 2016 we planned to take Op Inheritance to the next level. By informing people through social media of stolen goods in the local area we hoped to reach a greater audience allowing us to trace many more items that have been reported as stolen to Devon and Cornwall Police and, in turn, perform prompt and effective investigations leading to positive results.
