Nosterfield LNR is Hambleton District’s first and only Local Nature Reserve, designated in 2001. It started to draw birdwatchers in the mid 1970s and early 1980s, as quarrying reached the water table and started to draw birds. It was designated as a Site of Importance for Birds (SINC) in 1993 and is now generally recognised as North Yorkshire’s premier wetland grassland site for birds.
