I've been playing for around 13 years now, have played live for various audience sizes, taught and recorded, but no matter what the situation - I LOVE playing guitar!

I owe this to the way that I was taught: Looking at combining practice and theory by learning riffs, solos and chords used in the songs that *I* liked, then understanding *why* they actually worked.
This definitely beat the stuffy old method of starting with very basic chords, learning songs that you could take or leave and then "grading" - Forget that! Challenge yourself!

In my opinion, the only grading system worth adhering to is the look on people's faces when you start playing!

The genres that I gravitate toward personally are blues (on an acoustic) and rock (on an electric), however in teaching students interested in other genres, I've enriched my own playing and musical taste too!

I firmly believe that if you're taught in a manner that engages and inspires you, with a focus on improvisation & song construction, you'll become ADDICTED to playing guitar and improve VERY quickly!
