Newhailes is a very special place which is today in the care of The National Trust for Scotland. For nearly three hundred years this has been the home to successive generations of the Dalrymple family whose stewardship of the house has helped to retain so much of its history. Since the Trust acquired Newhailes from the trustees of the late Sir Mark Dalrymple in 1997, Newhailes has undergone a cutting-edge programme of conservation. We have not aimed to enhance, improve or upgrade any aspect of the appearance of Newhailes or recover the original aesthetic of any of the collection. Instead the focus has been on stabilising the condition and preventing deterioration.
