More about Metafit Gerrards Cross

Metafit HIIT training comes to Gerrards Cros
What is HIIT?
HIIT is an acronym for High Intensity Interval Training – this type of training involves cycles of short-burst high-intensity activity interspersed by recovery that aims to improve aerobic fitness. Because intensity is high, the duration of the session is short – any longer than 30 minutes and it’s not a HIIT workout. Metafit workouts are based on the HIIT principle that results in an extremely efficient and effective form of exercise.
Do I need to be fit to do a metafit session?
No. The exercises performed in a metafit session can be regressed or progressed to suit all fitness levels and abilities. Everyone is different and has their own strengths and weaknesses – you work to your maximum and the supportive metafit coach will ensure you are doing the exercise at a level that is appropriate for you and give you encouragement throughout the workout.
I’m a bit uncoordinated that’s why I don’t go to aerobics classes – how is metafit different?
Metafit is un-choreographed, its not a dance or aerobics class. It is a selection of bodyweight exercises (think old-school exercises such as push-ups, squats, burpees, etc) done to great music with voice commands. Your metafit™ coach Mark McKenna will instruct correct technique for each exercise and assist you with maintaining correct form.
Is it really just 30 minutes?
Yes. All metafit sessions include a dynamic mobilisation warm-up, the main metafit™ set – depending upon the workout selected can last between 17-23 minutes, and a cool-down.
How many times a week should I do a metafit session?
A growing body of research has found that completing 3 metafit sessions per week has superior health and fitness benefits compared to continuous aerobic exercise. In comparison, the public health recommendation for continuous moderate aerobic exercise is at least 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week.

I’m training for a 10km run. Will metafit help or hinder preparing for this event?
Definitely help. Reviews have found that adding HIIT such as metafit alongside your aerobic training (running, riding, swimming) improves aerobic fitness outcomes over and above what aerobic training alone can do. In addition, the regular completion of bodyweight exercises improves leg, upper body and core strength, which further enhances your running ability.
Do I need any special equipment or clothing?
No, but a water bottle, workout towel and an exercise mat will make your experience a little more comfortable. Please wear good supportive footwear (water proof (goretex) cross trainers or hill running shoes are ideal as we're working on grass in all weathers) and exercise or training clothing that is breathable and provides support in all the right places! Waterproof palmed work gloves can be useful especially during the winter months as some contact with the ground is inevitable.
Great where and when can I start?
Metafit coach Mark McKenna from Ultracult Fitness runs lessons in the park on East Common on Monday Wednesday and Friday at 10:15am. The lessons take place in all weathers rain is only water and will keep you feeling refreshed during your workout and lighting will be provided during the winter months if need be.
How Much Will It Cost Me?
All classes are £5.00 per session.
