When a committed relationship ends, it is painful for everyone involved. The couple will have many emotions to deal with as will children, wider family and friends. There are also a host of practical issues to sort out.

Family mediators are trained to sit down with a couple on neutral ground. They will initially explore the issues that need to be resolved. They will then work with the couple to find acceptable solutions. Rarely will the couple think those solutions are ideal. Any compromise involves giving something up and solutions cannot be found without compromise. The mediator will try to help the couple see that and explore realistic settlement options.
