More about Little Acorns Childminding North Norfolk

Welcome to Little Acorns, Gresham, UK. My name is Helen, and I am an Ofsted registered childminder, and I live at home with my husband and two boys, (9 and 14) and two cats. Little Acorns is a childminding setting based in the lovely English countryside where the emphasis is on playing and learning outdoors. Children are really nurtured here, and encouraged to enjoy and appreciate nature in a safe and enabling environment.

Here at Little Acorns we have a huge garden to explore, surrounded by woodland and lots of safe walks. Our garden is full of wildlife, we easily find insects, spiders, beetles, bugs, frogs, birds, to name just a few. We regularly spot birds of prey circling over head, and we have many visitors to our garden in the form of grouse, pheasants, chickens and on a few occasions, deer. When we have spotted an interesting creature, we find out more about it by reading books, looking it up on the internet and drawing pictures and even making a habitat for it.
A short walk away is a nice park where we can take a picnic and let off some steam. This walk takes us past three very friendly ducks who have made their home near a little stream. We also visit Wiveton Hall, to pick (eat!) strawberries, raspberries and maybe indulge in an ice cream.

Nearby towns of Sheringham and Holt provide wonderful play and friend-making opportunities with their various toddler groups. The library and various museums make a great destination on a rainy day. Sheringham Park offers lots of fun activities such as pond dipping, and of course plenty of opportunities to expel some energy. Our garden also offers the chance to see fruit growing. We can pick apples, blackberries, pears, plums, damsons, gooseberries. We then use the fruit in cooking, which helps to promote healthy eating.

Coming soon will be the Little Acorns very own vegetable patch. If they wish, the children can help to dig the soil and weed it, and to sow the seeds and water it regularly. Collecting the vegetables and preparing them for cooking is an activity that most children seem to enjoy. Aside from all the wonderful opportunities to learn and understand about nature, we also have a selection of ride on toys, a wendy house, slide, footballs, hula hoops, sand pit, water table etc. Cold wet days are also well catered for inside with plenty of toys, crafts, books, brio, building blocks, dolls, teddies etc.

Whatever the weather, please always send your child in sturdy shoes and play clothes, the older the better!
