The office, based in the City of Chelmsford, provides the closest link in the East Anglian network to the City, Canary Wharf and Docklands. In the north-east of the County is historic Colchester, Britain’s oldest town, and access to the water for the sailing enthusiast on the River Stour, the Walton Backwaters and close by are the beaches of Walton, Frinton and Clacton. The Colne and Blackwater Estuaries, together with the Rivers Crouch and Thames in the south provide an interesting and extensive coastline, and opportunities for walks and for the ornithologist. The County is criss-crossed by a network of footpaths and bridleways, of note being the East Anglian Rides Network, suitable for exploring the County off the beaten track.
