Information before treatment:
1. Gel Extensions or Overlays are likely to last up to 3 weeks on nails depending on how they are looked after, however an infill is recommend every 2 weeks to maintain them.
2. Infills are done by filing off any colour and/or any loose flaking Gel, then reapplying fresh Gel (and colour if desired).
3. The Gel used is a file off gel rather than a soak off gel, which means it needs to be regularly maintained and if required, removed by a nail technician.
4. Removal involves carefully filing off the Gel until the natural nail is bare again and is easiest to do 2-3 weeks after it has been applied as it will be ready to come off if an infill is not done instead. The Gel is filed until it is thin enough that it will flake away from the nail meaning there is no need to file the natural nail to remove the gel. This flaking is less likely to happen if removal is being done less than 2 weeks from it being applied which could result in over filing and damage to the natural nail. This is why removal less than 2 weeks from applying is not recommended.
5. This type of Gel is therefore intended for people who want long nails for a long period of time (rather than as a one off for example, where something that can be easily removed such as Acrylics may be best).

The risks of removal involve:
1. Any attempt to remove the Gel Extensions or Overlays by anyone other than the person who applied them could result in damaging your nails.
2. Having the Gel Extensions or Overlays removed before the recommended 2-3 weeks of wear could result in damage to your nails, due to the Gel still being very freshly applied and not ready to come off.
3. Having the Gel Extensions or Overlays removed could result in sore nail beds for a couple of days due to the extent of filing involved in a full removal.
