The Independent Learning Centre prides itself on offering a highly professional service for our clients, with a personal touch. We aim for the centre to be a safe, secure and happy place where clients can enjoy themselves, learn new skills and socialise with their peers and friends. We work towards offering a person centred service which allows clients to participate to their full ability.
Potential clients interested in attending the ILC are encouraged to visit the centre and sample the atmosphere and level of service. This is a flexible and personalised trial for the client and could consist of them choosing to just come and take a look and have a drink or maybe them trying out a session as a taster session to see how they feel about it.
The centre policy on “Therapeutic Activities” takes into account the clients' interests, skills, experiences, personalities and medical condition. The centre offers a wide range of activities designed to encourage the client to keep stimulated, interested and enjoy taking part and spending time interacting and socialising with their peers.
Our weekly timetable includes activities such as cooking, arts and crafts, gardening, independent living skills and leisure group including games, pool, and gym activities. All of our activities are made to be as person centred as possible in order to meet the needs of each individual client in the group. We aim to have 1 member of staff and 1 volunteer in each group and a maximum of 10 clients in each group so that as much support as possible is being provided.
We offer aromatherapy appointments with our fully qualified aromatherapist each week. These appointments can provide the client with an opportunity to relax and experience treatments such as Swedish massage or Indian head massage allowing a holistic approach to care to be maintained.
Our sensory room also offers the opportunity for relaxation. In a quiet environment, with our bubble tube and sensory activities, the client can spend time exploring their senses or just taking time out of their weekly routine to rest and allow themselves to relax.
We also regularly hold events including discos, open days and day trips such as going to the seaside which all clients and their family and friends are welcome to come along to.
