More about Home-Start Dinefwr

This page is devoted to Home-Start Dinefwr who have worked in East Carmarthenshire since 1995.

Home-Start Dinefwr is a voluntary organisation in which trained volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families with children under 14 years of age who maybe experiencing difficulties. Home-Start Dinefwr is funded mainly by Carmarthenshire County Council, Families First, and The Big Lottery Fund.

We desperately need volunteers who could offer a few hours of their time each week to visit a family.

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers offer flexible support to families without judging them. The relationship between a volunteer and a family is based on friendship, trust and understanding. As a volunteer you can play with the children or take them to the park to enable their parents to get on with the chores or even have a well deserved rest, you could accompany them to clinic appointments, help with shopping or just sit and have a chat. It is up to you and the family to agree how you will spend your time together.

Who are the volunteers?

We are looking for caring parents, grand-parents or people with childcare experience who need a rewarding pastime. Our volunteers come from many different backgrounds and varying life experiences. We only ask that they have a few hours a week to spare.

What don't volunteers do?

Volunteers are flexible, but they are not baby-sitters or cleaners, volunteers are an extra pair of hands offering support that enables families to cope better with the everyday strains of family life.

Is the Scheme Trustworthy?

YES. The Scheme Manager keeps in close contact with both volunteers and families making sure that everyone is happy with the service that is provided . Everything that is discussed between the Manager, the volunteer and the family is completely confidential, the only time this is broken is in the case of an emergency, for instance, for the protection of the child. All volunteers are informally interviewed by the Manager, they are police checked and attend a course of preparation which covers many aspects of family life and childcare.
