Guernsey Auto-Elec "Lucas House"

Lucas House has been the appointed Lucas distributor for Guernsey in one form or another since 1931.

The Guernsey and Jersey branches were part of the same company until they split in 1957. The Guernsey operation moved to its current site at Pitronnerie Road Industrial Estate in 1976, since then it has continued to grow.

Batteries are an important part of the business for Lucas Auto Elec. They are available for various applications such as car, commercial vehicle, motorcycle and marine fitment, as well as back-up systems for alarms and lighting installations.

As a result of the recent refit, the range of batteries has increased to include products from top brand names such as Lucas, Yuasa, Varta, Optima and Hella.

"The range of tools on offer has also greatly increased" said Mr Philip Sandwith, MD. “We have a huge portfolio of suppliers. Sealey, Draper, Facom, Milwaukee and Britool are just some of the tools and equipment ondisplay in the tool section of the new shop. At one time Lucas House purely supplied Lucas parts for cars, but now we have widened our stock holdings with brand names that are well-known in each trade, and we carry an extensive range of CarPlan, Holts, Simonize, Tetrosyl and Hammerite products, most of the best-known brands in car care”.

For servicing purposes, the company carries a large range of oils and lubricants from Comma, Mobil, Millers and Total, with the added advantage of NGK and Champion spark plugs and a complete range of service parts and Filters. Lucas Auto Elec can now supply customers with exactly what they need.

“It is not possible to provide every item off the shelf for all makes of vehicle” said Mr Sandwith , “but we do have a very effective next-day service with a direct computer link to Motoquip, Fleetguard, QH and Bosch for a huge range of original equipment auto parts”

So far as the average car user is concerned, when looking for parts, in particular for older vehicles, the main dealers have reduced stock levels carried on their shelves, so the speed of our service is invaluable.Lucas Auto Elec also has its own workshop. This specialises in auto and marine electrics and is equipped to handle computerized engine-management diagnostics and a full repair service.Mr. Sandwith explained that in order to have people qualified in these areas, the technicians have been trained in-house in conjunction with the College of Further Education.
