Grafters' Gables

"A picture is worth a thousand words; a street tells a thousand stories."

Featuring hand painted murals by Frank Styles, and stories written by James Whitman, Grafters' Gables is a celebration of Hendon and the East End of Sunderland. Starting on Villette Road, Frank's murals will take you on a tour of the area's colourful past. Each mural will be accompanied by a short story, which you will be able to read online or download for free from our website.

We will be working on the project until June 2015, when we will hold an official launch event. James will be running free storytelling workshops in the February and Easter school holidays, and Frank will be running some very special painting workshops (details to be confirmed).
