More about Glossop Labour Club

Events and community

We are at the heart of a vibrant community in Glossop. Regular activities at the club include a Folk Club on Tuesdays and an informal music session on Fridays. We are home to a walking group, a reading group, a women's group and a knitting group. The Glossop Folk Train visits us once a month and we host Glossop Record Club for all you Vinyl junkies. We are a community space and we host a number of groups including the Glossop Guild, Samba Band, a Creative Writing group, Zumba, Peace Group, People's Kitchen and many others.

History

The club was founded in 1906 by some of Glossopdale's leading trade unionists, co-operators and suffragettes. They were young and enthusiastic socialists and were extremely active politically in the valley. Throughout our history we have been home to people from all the various traditions on the left and to people with no party political affiliation.

Membership

Whilst many of our activities are open to the public, we are a members club. To become a member pop in and collect a form from the bar. Our normal membership is called a 'social' membership and costs just £5 a year. Once you've been a member for a year you can apply for full membership which entitles you to vote in elections and to stand for committee.

Principles

We are proud of our socialist history and expect members to abide by our principles of equality and liberty for all. We do not tolerate sexism, racism or any form of hatred towards minority groups.
