Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve

The Nature Reserve extends to over 1000 acres and is famous for its special old oak woodlands. There is also new woodland regenerating in areas which have been cleared of non-native conifers plus stunning rivers, old grassland and a pretty lake.

The woods form one of the best examples of oceanic sessile oak woodland in Ireland and as such are designated as part of a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

There are five different walking trails, many of which are accessible to people of any age or ability. Other facilities include car parking and picnic areas with tables & benches.

The woodland is owned and managed by the National Parks & Wildlife Service of the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht (DAHG).
