Gertie's Cafe

Gertie’s Cafe is a modern, comfortable & welcoming licensed café where you can enjoy breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas.
Our breakfasts range from the full English breakfast for the hearty eater through to Scrambled Eggs on Toast or Warm Croissants and Jam for the light appetite, all of which are freshly cooked to order.
Lunches include a selection of freshly made sandwiches, jacket potatoes with various toppings and homemade soup, which is usually vegetarian and gluten free. There is also a menu special which changes frequently and is appropriate to the season, for example, home-made lasagne and salad, cottage pie and peas, bacon & thyme loaf with a wedge of cheese and homemade chutney, pate platter and many more. Why not treat yourself to a glass or two of wine or local ale with your lunch as we are licensed to serve wine or beer with food. We also have an extensive gluten free menu, from English breakfast, filled rolls and pasties through to scones, muffins and teacakes.
There are traditional Devon cream teas with a choice of one or two scones, local farm clotted cream and strawberry jam and a pot of tea for one. We always a selection of homemade cakes, tray bakes, plain, fruit or cheese scones and cookies all made by us on the premises, or why not try our giant buttered teacakes or deliciously hot crumpets, served with butter or for an extra treat top them with cheese and accompany them with our home-made chutney.
We cater for children too with a children’s menu which includes a breakfast selection and lunches served with either, crisps, fruit or carrot sticks to tempt most children’s appetites. There is also a highchair and a booster chair.
If you enjoyed our chutney or jam you can take a pot away with you – we sell a small selection of our produce at the counter. A ‘must have’ is a bottle of the famous Sweet Onion & Poppyseed salad dressing, which we use on all our salad accompaniments and which we guarantee you will be hooked on.
