At 53, whilst caring for my 79 year old Mum nearby who's memory was clearly increasingly struggling to cope with every day life- I wondered whether Alzheimer's and dementia was inevitable for me too? It's a fear that increases as you get older I guess. Like many friends of the same age I sometimes had memory lapses, forgot a name, a place or a film title.......I even forgot my pin number on my debit card once! However the fact that there's no known "conventional medical cure" currently didn't put me off wanting to see what caused it, whether it was inevitable or whether we could effect a change and if so how could we regain control of our own mental health destiny and not become helplessly dependant of others.
