Eyemouth Maritime Centre

Eyemouth Maritime Centre is situated on the Old Fish Market site and the building is fashioned on an 18th Century Frigate.
Inside you will find an upper gun deck with cannons ready to fire into the harbour through open hatches.
Downstairs are a selection of boats, mostly from Britain, and the "Smugglers" Pub scene where a lot of business took place!
By the cliff scene we have a Whaling boat complete with oars and harpoons, from the Azores and the truly fascinating stories, photos and original artifacts of the men who went Whaling in the Antarctic as recently as the 1960's, many of whom were local men.

Talking about local men brings us nicely to our "Cutty Sark" model and the explanation of what cargo she carried and where she carried it to. The original owner of the Cutty Sark was actually born in Eyemouth so there is some information celebrating the connection.

Our "World of Boats" collection, mainly stored in Eyemouth, has almost 300 boats from all around the globe and to give an idea of the vast collection there are authentic scale replica models displayed geographically showing where these boats worked and what they were used for.

To be an Able-Bodied Seaman, you had to know how to tie knots and use pulleys and we have just the thing. Our museum has an interactive display to give everyone a little practice at tying and pulling. Great fun for all the family!
